Less Is More: A Hard Way to Get Potential Dwarfing Hybrid Rootstocks for Valencia Sweet Orange

چکیده
As in several fruit crops, citrus trees with decreased size allow for a higher planting density, which may lead to productivity and facilitate operations such as harvesting spraying. The use of dwarfing rootstocks is one the most feasible methods tree control, but few commercial varieties are available date. In this work, long-term performance Valencia sweet orange grafted onto 51 hybrid was evaluated rainfed cultivation at 6.0 m × 2.5 spacing Northern São Paulo State, Brazil. About third hybrids were classified semi-dwarfing rootstocks, that is, respectively inducing relative canopy volume <40% 40–60% compared standard rootstock, Rangpur lime Santa Cruz selection. production efficiency soluble solids concentration conversely related volume. Three citrandarins Sunki mandarin (TSKC) Flying Dragon trifoliate (TRFD) grouped within productive rootstocks. Other expressively mainly sensitive drought; therefore, mean yield low, indicating need irrigation, albeit quality high. Estimated on selected TSKC TRFD would double an average 40 t·ha−1·year−1 if adjusted smaller size. Although HTR-208 citrandarin LCR CTSW-009 citrumelimonia vigorous lime, they induced outstanding due their highest tolerance drought and, hence, can be considered wider spacing.

‘valencia’ Sweet Orange Tree Flowering Evaluation under Field Conditions
Since citrus flowering is a key process in citriculture and its evaluation is often difficult due to the canopy structure and field sampling, the aim of this research was to give some directions regarding the evaluation of flowering in field-grown sweet orange plants. This study was conducted in a citrus orchard of sweet orange plants cv. ‘Valencia’ [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] grafted on ‘Cle...
متن کاملAbility of ‘Valencia’ Sweet Orange to Cold-acclimate on Cold-sensitive Citron Rootstock
Greenhouse-grown l-year-old sweet orange trees [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck cv. Valencia] on cold-hardy trifoliate orange [Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf.] and cold-sensitive citron (C. medica L.) rootstocks were exposed to cold-acclimation conditions and freeze-tested at -6.7C for 4 hours in a temperature-programed walk-in freezer room. Nonhardened trees generally did not survive the freeze, whe...
متن کاملSalinity tolerance of 'Valencia' orange trees on rootstocks with contrasting salt tolerance is not improved by moderate shade.
The effects of shading in combination with salinity treatments were studied in citrus trees on two rootstocks with contrasting salt tolerance to determine if shading could reduce the negative effects of salinity stress. Well-nourished 2-year-old 'Valencia' orange trees grafted on Cleopatra mandarin (Cleo, relatively salt tolerant) or Carrizo citrange (Carr, relatively salt sensitive), were grow...
متن کاملCsHPt1, a putative histidine-containing phosphotransmitter protein induced during early somatic embryogenesis in Valencia sweet orange
A cDNA named CsHPt1 (for Citrus sinensis histidine phosphotransmitter protein 1) containing a conserved domain characteristic of a twocomponent phosphorelay intermediate associated with signal transduction mechanisms, was isolated from globular embryos of C. sinensis sweet orange cv. ‘Valencia’ by differential display RT-PCR. The corresponding full-length cDNA, subsequently obtained by RACE-PCR...
متن کاملSweet cherry rootstocks for the Pacific Northwest
All commercial sweet cherry trees are either budded or grafted. The part of the tree above the graft/bud union is known as the scion and the part below the graft/bud union is known as the rootstock. Sweet cherry scion cultivars have been selected over millennia for many reasons, but over the past century, breeding programs have concentrated mainly on achieving improved characteristics such as y...
